Announcement on Preventing the Introduction of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza from Peru, Bolivia and Türkiye into China

        Recently, Peru, Bolivia and Türkiye reported to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) that H5 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza has occurred in poultry farms in this country. In order to protect the safety of China’s animal husbandry and prevent the introduction of epidemic diseases, in accordance with the provisions of the Customs Law of the People’s Republic of China, the Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine and its implementation regulations, and other relevant laws and regulations, we hereby announce as follows:

        I. It is prohibited to directly or indirectly import poultry and its related products from Peru, Bolivia and Türkiye (from poultry unprocessed or processed products that may still spread epidemic diseases).

        II. All poultry and related products shipped from Peru, Bolivia and Türkiye since the date of this announcement shall be returned or destroyed. The relevant poultry products shipped from Peru, Bolivia and Türkiye before the date of this announcement shall be strictly quarantined and tested, and can be released only after passing the quarantine inspection and laboratory test.

        III. It is prohibited to send or bring birds and their products from Peru, Bolivia and Türkiye into the country. Once found, they shall be returned or destroyed.

        IV. Animal and plant wastes, swill, etc. discharged from the inbound ships, aircraft and other means of transport from Peru, Bolivia and Türkiye shall be subject to disinfestation under the supervision of the customs and shall not be discarded without authorization.

        V. Poultry and its products illegally imported from Peru, Bolivia and Türkiye intercepted by border inspection departments shall be destroyed under the supervision of customs.

        VI. Any violation of the above provisions shall be dealt with by the Customs in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Customs Law of the People’s Republic of China, the Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine and its implementing regulations.

        VII. Customs at all levels and agricultural and rural departments at all levels shall closely cooperate with each other in accordance with the provisions of the Customs Law of the People’s Republic of China, the Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine and its implementation regulations, the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Animal Epidemic Prevention and other relevant laws and regulations to do a good job in quarantine, epidemic prevention and supervision.
